Porn Star Hank Rose was a true unsung hero of 80s/90s porn, a hardcore everyman who owed his success to hard work and a prodigious sex drive. Like an unassuming Clark Kent who morphed into sexual Superman at the yell of action at a porn shoot phonebooth, Hank Rose was a journeyman grinder stud who thrived on natural performance rather than appearance, and his stamina, intensity and sheer zest for his lusty lifestyle always impressed.
His nickname 'Hammerin' Hank' was given to him early on by Joey Silvera, who recognized a tenacious tool when he saw it. He started out as a fan, so his up-and-down ride through the scene were all the more enjoyable and fun. Although an LA native born in the early 60s, Hank Rose grew up in New England where the only signs of smut in Beantown were segregated to the Combat Zone. By the mid 70s in search of a better education and to mend his broken home, he packed up and moved back to the west coast to look for his long lost mother. What he found was porn instead. With a sex shop and X theater on every other street corner, as well as John Holmes and Ron Jeremy as horny heroic role models, Hank could not help but grow up pornish and adopt the dream of Forrest Hump.
In 1986 on a lark, he sent a tongue-in-cheek fan letter to porn paternal hardcore impresario William Margold. Bill was so taken by the multi-talented aspirant, that they became fast friends, and Margold became his mentor and began using him as a press writer on his various projects. Rose eventually convinced him to let Hank try his hand at on-screen romping, and in 1988 he made his porn screen debut. Hank Rose's first video foray into wick wetting debauchery was in the sex comedy 'Three Men and a Lady.' Although he shared the lead with Ariel Knight, when it came time for the sex Hank had to settle for sharing her during a wild group scene. To really make his mark, Hank knew that he had to nail down a one-on-one scene on his own. That he did with 88's 'No Way In.' He took on gorgeous Kim Basinger look-alike Amanda Tyler in a feverish fling, and Hank Rose---porn star---was on his way.
Off and on over the next decade, Hank Rose would appear in 150 plus features. He was the total do-anything performer, ready and willing to participate in any flick---from big budget to one-day wonder. Titles such as 'Anal Gang Bangers 1,' 'Aged to Perfection 2' and 'Colossal Orgy 2' give you a clue to his raunchy range. As he puts it himself, Hank "worked at the top and the bottom of this biz and everywhere in between!" As a rule, he prided himself on delivering hotter scenes than many well known contemporaries, as well as doing so without the use of, shall we say, 'performance enhancers.' In short, the Hammerin' One was void of sexual steroids. With Hank Rose, what you saw was what you got.
Given his persona as a jack of all porn trades, highlights of Hank's carnal career are many. They include wearing all the hats as co-producer, co-director, writer and star of an IAFD top 50 ranked video best seller, 1991's campy how-to pornbeat travelog, The Raunchy Porno Picture Show, wherein he was credited as Vince Del Rio. Other joint jaunts include an oral cameo in a wild group scene with Ashlyn Gere in 'Realities'. 'All That' finds Hank playing a hard-charging editor who relieves his stress with some scorching office action courtesy of bawdy ebony beauty Madam Butterfly. But Hank's most beloved unforgettable tryst was in a rare lost LBO Bobby Hollander loop with Julie Juggs who, as the ultimate hourglass brick house tit queen, did mostly fetish content and a handful of precious few boy/girl romps. He describes her as not only a stunning throwback and carnal cross between legendary classic mainstream Hollywood startlets of the past like Rosalind Russell, Ann-Margaret and Rita Hayworth, but in his view quite possibly the most beautiful woman in the history of porn.
Hank Rose left the adult video scene in the late 90s after he lost his dad and settled down. He wrapped up the twilight of his career on the Internet, performing in some of the first on-line sex ever webcast. He's pitched his porn memoirs online via his own web site and has run a consultation business for adult entreprenurial newcomers. Today his goal is to help the biz crossover. And as of this writing his last project involved him as a writer/co-creator of an adult animation sitcom in development. With a career spanning ten years, enough credits not to run out of fond memories and a list of scrumptious sex partners longer than his arm, you'd think he'd had enough of 'blowbiz', as he coins it. Yet due to the fact that his best feature was well received by fans and he's still remembered for crowdpleasing pop shooter ability, he's always felt that he missed out on the no-holds-barred fun of the Internet Age and has unfinished business. Stay tuned. We shall see. Career second wind comeback or not, Hank Rose's legacy is still a proud one. His career remains the ultimate fantasy for every male porn fan. Hank Rose is living proof that sometimes our sexiest most outlandish dreams do come true.
