Candy Barr was actually more of a burlesque legend than a Porn Star, although she did find her way into a couple of classic hardcore loops during her career in the skin biz. Born Candy Barr in Edna, Texas on July 6, 1935, in her day Candy Barr was one of the best-known strippers in the country. She was a naturally busty blonde beauty whose picture-perfect figure and cutie-pie face made her an irresistible feast for the eyes.

Candy Barr first started stripping in Dallas during the mid-1950s. Her luscious 38-22-36 curves proved to be an instant sensation, and her revue quickly had folks flocking from all over the Midwest to check her out. It was while she was an up-and-coming stripper that Candy Barr shot a couple of hardcore loops, including the legendary short 'Smart Alec.' In that old-school bit of porn, Candy Barr and another buxom lovely take on some lucky stiff in a hotel-room threesome.

Her notoriety grew in 1956, when she was arrested for shooting her abusive husband. Candy Barr's manager knew the value of free publicity, and actually arranged with the courts to have her bail increased, so as to splash her name all over the papers even more! This, despite the fact that her husband was hardly seriously injured in the incident.

Once she got out of jail for that infraction, Candy Barr quickly found herself in even bigger trouble. In 1957, Dallas police stormed her house and arrested her on charges of marijuana possession. She appealed her case all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court because of the police force's stormtrooper tactics. They declined to hear her case, and in 1959 she went to jail for a 3-year term.

Candy Barr cultivated notorious friends, as well. During the period when her pot charge was on appeal, she hooked up with Vegas mobster Mickey Cohen for a while. After her release, she befriended Dallas strip-club impresario Jack Ruby -- who went on to become famous for something quite apart from his night job!

Candy Barr continued stripping in Dallas and Las Vegas throughout the 60s and early 70s, and appeared in a handful of softcore nudie flicks like 1964's 'My Tale Is Hot.' She left the business in the early 70s, retiring to her Texas home. She remains one of the most famous -- and infamous -- women to ever strut her stuff on a strip club stage.
